'ANCESTRAL CURSE-THE ORIGIN OF SIN/forth chapter
Posted on: Wed 22 Oct, 2008.

Gen. 2:24 “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh”. Gen. 2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. This is further confirmed in Gen. 4:1- And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived, and bore Cain, and said, I have gather a man from the LORD.

It has now been well established and clearly understood that “SEX” was not the cause of the fall of man, instead it was “DISOBEDIENCE”. God seriously regards disobedience as a high degree of immorality as witchcraft and we know that disobedience is the “willful act of disregarding and breaking or contravening any commandment from God”, which calls for punishment. So the first couple Adam and Eve made a willful choice by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil of which God had forbidden them to eat. That was the very first SIN committed on the earth resulting in death and all its concomitant woes and worries in this life. So under every dispensation, God requires obedience in dealing with humanity for example, the agony of Saul, the 1st to be enthroned as Kings of Israel.

1 Samuel 15:16 “Then Samuel said unto Saul, stay and I will tell you what the LORD has said to me this night.

1 Samuel 15:17 “And Samuel said, when you were little in your own sight, were you not made the head of the tribe of Israel; and the LORD anointed you king over Israel?

1 Samuel 15:18 ‘And the LORD sent you on a journey; and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.

1 Samuel 15:19- Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but did pounce upon the spoil, and did evil in the sight of the LORD?

Let us reason together. Why did the serpent refuse to approach Adam? The cunning and subtleness could not have overcome Adam if he had made a direct approach, because Adam had received the first commandment or law” directly from God at a time when the woman had not been made. You would realize from the narrative that Adam had passed on the law to the woman, a weaker vessel by nature – (one out of seven ribs of man God had taken to form the woman) could be a determinant factor to her natural weakness. Another point which proves the woman’s absence while God was giving the law to Adam is that upon the serpent’s approach to tempt her knowledge about the forbidden tree, she added “neither shall you touch it” which was not inclusive in the direct word from God to Adam. (Gen. 2:16 – And the Lord God commanded man saying: of every tree of the garden you may freely eat: Vrs. 17- But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die.”)

It is undisputable fact that they could not have eaten of it without touching it first; on the other hand, they could have touched without eaten of it, in which case God could have warned them a second time in his own wisdom and judgment, since the direct words from God to Adam was “not to eat of it.”

Proverbs 30:6 says: And not unto his words, lest he reproves you, and you be found a liar.”

You would realize that Eve’s answer to the serpent with the addition of “not to touch it” made the serpent wifer a sense of ignorance and lack of adequate knowledge about something could easily lead one to err. All said and done, God’s first commandment was contravened by Adam by following the deceitful and counter directions from the serpent through the woman- a weaker vessel- and an instrument of the devil at that motional moment.

Adam could not have erred if he had not listened to his wife whom the devil had masterfully planned to use as an agent of seduction, a strategy that completely eluded Adam’s intelligence at the time.

Gen. 3:17 “And unto Adam God said ‘Because you have listened unto the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree which I commanded you, saying, you shall not eat of it: CURSED is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life.

For this reason, God had seriously cautioned men to be extra careful in their deliberation and revelation to their helpmates.

Micah 7:5 “Trust not in a friend, put not confidence in a companion: keep the doors of your mouth from her that lies in your bosom.” In close resemblance to the above scripture, the Akans have a saying “suro nea oben wo”, literally meaning “fear him who is near you”. Include the examples of Sarah and Abraham, Sampson and Delila, Joseph and Portifa’s wife and David and Uriah’s wife.
