STOP WEARING THOSE LONG TITLES AND APPELLATIONS, M
Posted on: Wed 01 Apr, 2009.

It is a fact that the names of God have rightly attracted the attention of people seeking to know Him better and understand more facets of His character. For instance, God reveals Himself to Moses by the burning bush as I AM THAT I AM (YHWH or Jehovah).

We thus see, how important names and attributes are and therefore the need to curb the unpleasant trend of men of God posing all sorts of titles and aliases which have debilitating effect on Christianity.

Time was in this country when titles such as Archbishops, Bishops, Apostles and Prophets were  deservingly accorded men in ministry only after careful monitoring, proper training and growth in the Church. This certainly is not the case today when there’s such proliferation of individually-owned churches and the number of churches have reached an astronomical high. Our men of God of today use all kinds of titles in ministry, many of which they are undeserving.

It is common to find one young man preaching today as some evangelist of a sort and assume an ‘Apostle Dr’, ’Bishop Prophet Dr’, ’Very Most Reverend’ etc tomorrow. Question is, how do they acquire these titles? Simple! Since these self-styled ‘men of God’ are themselves, founders, overseers and head pastors of churches (which equally have interesting names) and thus assume whatever title they so desire.

Many a Christian have expressed worry over this ugly development since these flamboyant and bizarre titles and attributes tend make a mockery of the high ‘sacred’ offices of the Great ministry Jesus Christ.

How? Fact is the ostentatious and questionable lifestyles and activities run parallel to these titles. Even more disturbing is the fact that our men of God in question also use aliases; and like the Pharisees and Sadducees, revel in all kinds of appellations.

On the scale of 87.9 to 107.7, it’s most likely to hear very unnecessary and obnoxious nickies such as ‘Kumchacha’, ’Odumgya-tutu-gya-gu’, ’Jesus Abrantie’, ’Yeresuro’, ‘Apae-live’, ‘Odeneho’ etc accompanying the names of some virtually-shouting men and women in the studios of radio stations.

Don’t be astounded, Brethen, the next time the ‘Dr Paa Bobos’, and the ’Bishop Bob Okallas’ are juxtaposed by cynics of our Faith with the ‘Bishop Drs’, ‘Most Very Reverend’, and the ‘Apostle Drs’ who are supposed to be front-runners of Christianity.

This paper duly condemns this unpleasant trend and calls on the National Association of Christian Charismatic Churches (NACCC), the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), the Ghana Pentecostal Council (GPC) and other Christian groups to call these ‘men of God’ whose intentions are highly suspect.

Beware, all you who are clad in the cassocks, clerical collars, etc and yet are bringing Christianity into disrepute! You have succeeded in deceiving some of the people with your superfluous titles, appellations and aliases; the Gentle God is however watching you all, He has “picked up His stone and would throw it soon!!!”
