According to Mr. Agambire, the institution in its quest to empower the Ghanaian Youth has realized that with the over 75% of the Ghanaian population using mobile phones, the potential for wealth creation from “ancillary service” could not be overstated. Since telecommunication is inevitable in national building.
It was in that pursuit for wealth creation through self-employment that Roagam Links saw it prudent to partner with the vision of government to fully eradicate the unemployment menace in the society through the "NYEP" programme. By engaging the creative talents of the youth to create and sustain a thrive business in the "repairs and assembly of mobile phones" to create permanent employment.
The second batch of the trainees have been trained with 'table top' sales and service to propel high activation in various networks by offering direct sales point for potential customers of their products alongside the sale of phones and repairs. That would as well increase talk time leading to high revenue not only to the networks but the talk tax revenue to government for developmental projects.
Roagam Links has been able to train over two hundred youth and set them up within Greater Accra Region. Currently it has established and fully equipped training centres in five regions and working to commission projects in the other five regions by the end of the year to get more youth on board.
Mr. Abuga Pele, the NYEP National coordinator in his address said it was laudable for Roagam Links to undertake such programme to lessen the government of enrolling all graduants on pay role in that the institute had equip them with the necessary skills for self-employment to create wealth . Mr. Abuga further challenged the institution to upgrade the training to include computer repair and assembly.
Hon.Rashed Pelpuo, the sector minister explained that the NYEP programme was not a place to work and retired as presumed by some youngsters but a viable platform to equip themselves with skills and exist into something else; to launch into life as a permanent enterprenuerer. Hon. Rashed appealed to intermediary companies to support the transitional process for trainees to exist without problems.
Mr. Eric Hougathon of Intercontinental Bank was among the attendees who graced the occasion.
